It has been almost two semesters of planning, and we are getting ready to ship to Belize May 1, 2011! Our crew consist of 13 students in K-12 Education, 2 interns in Higher Education, and 2 students in School Counseling. Our 2 faculty advisers are Dr. Sandra Duncan and Dr. Margaret Pentecost. The 2011 International Teaching Experience in Belize allows students to travel internationally, while teaching in two different school sites and participating in cultural excursions that center around life in Belize. During the course of the teaching experience students will have the opportunity to spend three days teaching at Red Bank and three days teaching in Independence.
In an increasingly global society, it is crucial for today's teachers to experience different cultures, teaching practices, and approaches to education. This experience will allow participants the opportunity to teach culturally diverse students, and experience first hand the rewards and challenges.
