Since our first day was a Belizean holiday, we visited the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich (Stone Lady). We had a great time learning about the history of the Mayan people and viewing and then climbing to the top of the temple. The ruins are spectacular! We saw a toucan and an iguana. Several students took turns at the hand cranked ferry. Lunch at the Orange Gifts cafe. Had a little problem with our vans as our registration had expired on Saturday, and just like in the US on a holiday weekend, the police had several road blocks up to check. We ended up having to meet the car rental folks to get another van. It worked out. We drove through the mountains to get to our final destination in Independence. Clint Foreman, the principal, at the primary school in Independence met us for dinner. His presentation was very helpful for all of us in finalizing our plans for teaching this week. We all had a good night's sleep and are ready to teach this morning!

We are envious of the sunshine!!!! It is raining, pouring and everything is flooding here.
ReplyDeleteI hope Clint, Lydia and the kids are great. Tell them hello!
Thank you for my birthday note. I am guessing that the wireless is working at Cardies. (I hope so, we didnt have to buy and send more parts this time :) )
The boys are having fun with Gandy, but Nate said they wanted to come home with him last night. Max got his certificate to move on to the next level at gymnastics. I'm not sure what all that entails, but he was exicted anyway. Nate is hanging in there and has gotten a lot of support from his team members, so he is feeling better.
Mayo is making a good dinner for all of us tonight and I think Joe is coming so it will be a great evening.
I'm not suprised that the vans gave you trouble. It wouldn't be an official trip to Belize if you didn't have to replace a van ;). I hope your students are enjoying their time there and taking it all in. I'm sure by now they have realized "your on Belize time now".
Have a great day!
